In observing how more African American women are embracing their natural hair, I decided to photograph the different stages. It was important to acknowledge the act of maintaining natural hair, honoring the different textures and to show representations that are connected. Most African American women have had their hair chemically processed at least once in their lifetime and the decision to return natural requires a few stages. This is a side of something that some people are not aware of unless they personally experience it. I want these photographs to bring others who are not aware through my point of view.
